60-week-old Bovans Brown Flock Awarded 1st Prize at BFREPA Awards

Bovans Brown and Dekalb White scooped a selection of top awards at the BFREPA's Annual Conference and the NFU's South West Poultry Conference this November.

BBC Countryfile's Adam Henson, presented the British Free Range Egg Producers Association's awards ceremony at its annual conference, which was attended by more than 500 industry professionals.

The awards ceremony aims to highlight excellence in the free-range poultry sector with nominees in categories such as innovation and egg quality.

Both Bovans Brown and Dekalb White were nominated for the best egg quality accolade where judges take size, uniformity, colour and shell strength into account.

The judging panel chose Stuart and Vanessa Chadwick and their 60-week-old Bovans Brown to take the prestigious first place, followed by Tim Bradley with his Dekalb White.

Third place was awarded to Charlie Stephenson of Harper Farm for his Bovans Brown.

Joice and Hill's Sales Director, Peter Cumbers commented: "we are delighted by these results, which reflect a combination of great genetics, excellent management and technical back-up."

Bovans Brown flocks also won the top three awards in the NFU Mutual Egg Quality Competition at the annual NFU South West Poultry Conference.

Roger and Andrea Downs took first place with their 34-week-old Bovans, with Simon Street of GW Persey taking second and third place.
